Tom De Smedt (PhD in Arts, CLiPS, University of Antwerp, 2013) studied software engineering at Hogeschool Antwerpen (BA, 2000) and new media art at St Lucas, School of Arts, Antwerp (MA, 2004) where he co-founded the Experimental Media Research Group (EMRG) before he started working on his PhD at the Computational Linguistics Research Group (CLiPS). During his PhD he developed the Pattern toolkit (http://www.clips.uantwerpen.be/pattern) for web mining, natural language processing, machine learning and network analysis. His research interests include text analytics, machine learning, computational creativity and computer graphics.
